AGM Report from Katy Styles

Going to the AGM of the MNDA is always a highlight of the year. You get to reflect on all that?s been achieved, all those people living with the disease we have lost and meet up with friends that you only correspond with via social media throughout the rest of the year.

You meet inspiring volunteers and staff and people you can now call friends.

What was this year?s conference about? You can watch the conference from the Livestreaming that the Association now does for all of its conferences.

Firstly, the NICE guidelines are in draft form and now are your opportunity to say what you think of the document. It is important to read this guideline, as it will set the standards for care of people living with MND for years to come. By having your say, you get to shape this important document.

Secondly an important announcement is that from 12/09/15 onwards, bereaved carers will be granted lifetime membership. The vote was unanimous.

Workshops attended by committee members for East Kent included ?Volunteering.? The focus of the workshop was to encourage branches and groups to work with VDCs and local volunteering groups to plan volunteer recruitment strategies in advance, rather than wait until vacancies arise.

The ?Campaigning? workshop was all about how easy it is to campaign encouraging people to sign up to the Campaigns network and take an action.

You can do that here:

As a campaign contact I got to speak about campaigning in bite-sized pieces, from giving out literature with cakes and saying thank you. Other campaigns contacts spoke about social media and what inspired them to campaign.
